Effect of Dietary Fats on Platelet Thromboxane B2 Level and Fecal bile Acid and Neutral Sterol Profiles in Young Women

Abstract
The present study was to observe the effect of dietary fats on platelet thromboxane B2(TXB2) level and fatty acid profile and also fecal excretion of bile acids and neutral sterols in young women. Seventeen college women were divided into 3
groups
and
fed 15 g of different dierary fats with bread for 6 weeks. Dietary fats were beef tallow, safflower oil and perilla oil. Fasting blood samples were collected at 0-week, 2-week, 6-week and 8-week and fecal samples at 0-week and 6-week of
experimental
period.
The ratio of n-6/n-3 fatty acid in fatty acid profile of platelet phospholipid was increased by safflower oil but decreased by perilla oil feeding but not significantly. Platelet TXB2 levels were increased after feeding dietary fats, regardless
of
type
of fats. There was no significant effect on fecal bile acid and neutral sterol profiles by different type of dietary fats, but the excretion of primary bile acid(cholic and chenodeoxycholic) was higher by beef tallaw and the excretion of
secondary
bile
acid (lithocholic and deoxycholic) was higher by safflower oil feeding.
